How to make Ivy Leaves from Fabric - Poison Ivy Costume

Here is a small Tut on How to Make Ivy Leaves out of fabric for the Poison Ivy Costume, crafts project or interiors project you might have in mind. This would be a really quick and easy craft to do with kids. Here is a link to the Youtube Tutorial if you would like to skip ahead and watch the video.

It creates a nice effect

Step 1:

What you will need:

1. Green Felt Fabric x 1 metre (You can buy a square of felt for like 50cent if you only want around 10 Ivy Shapes)
2. A fabric scissors or a normal scissors if you don't have a fabric one as the fabric is not delicate
3. Tailors chalk to draw your Ivy Leaves Shape or if you do not have this you can use a pen and turn it over so you can not see the pen marks. You can make your Ivy Leaf a small bit bigger if you want to cut the pen marks out.

Step 2:

Get your Tailors chalk or pen and draw a straight line for the middle of the leaf

Step 3:

Then draw a curved X through the middle line you just drew. Like the image below.

Step 4:

Start drawing your bottom leaves around the guidelines your just drew.

Step 5:

Do the same for the other 4 leaf shapes to create your Ivy Leaf. Please note: The bottom two leaves are the smallest ones then the middle two are a medium shape then the top leaf is the large ones. You can see how this is done in the Video Tutorial

Step 6:

You can then add a stem at the bottom of the leaf or leave it out. This is optional

Step 7:

Now you are READY to cut out your Ivy Leave Shapes. Please note, if you are planning on doing a lot of these leaves or NEED a lot, the best thing to do is to fold the fabric in two before you start to draw your Ivy Leaf then when you cut it out you will have two leafs instead of one and it will save you a lot of time if you need a lot of these leaves :)

Step 8:

Welcome to Pin Me Up Irelands Blog

Hellooo and welcome to the PMUI blog.

This blog was created to be a one stop shop for Fashion/Costume Design, Tutorials, Customising, Fashion /Beauty inspiration and all things Funky!

A bit about me:

I have been drawing and designing for Fashion and Costume since I could hold a pencil and was always fascinated by the female shape as there is so much you can do with it. I always knew it was what I wanted to be so I studies Art and Design, Historical Costume Design, Wig and Make up in College. I went on to work in Film/Theatre/Gigs doing Costume, Wardrobe and Wig and although it was some of the best times in my life I wanted to be more creative. I worked from home making Costumes on request and for production companies from my tiny room when you couldn't swing a cat!

Everything after that has been self thought, qualified Costume Designer but a Fashion Designer at heart. I love doing both! I love customising and challenging myself to learn how to make new things.

I am the designer and creator of Pin Me Up Ireland - For the Modern Day Pin Up Girl and all things funky.. A brand I built when I started with making wire headbands/dollybows for a Modern Pin Up Girl look, clothing and customising. Pin Me Up Irl was created after my mothers friends asked why I was not doing anything with my talents (I had given up on it and just made things for myself at this point but it never felt right and ate away at me). She said "Never sit on a dream, you will wake up one day in your 50s wishing you had followed your dreams". That really inspired me to go home and get working on my business! And that is how Pin Me Up Irl got started! #followyourdreams
